Buying guides
Best LiPo batteries for crawlers.
The right pack, the right connector, no guesswork.
Crawlers are gentle on batteries — low amp draw, long runtimes — which means you don't need race-grade packs. You need the right capacity, the right connector, and a brand that won't puff after twenty cycles. Here's what we'd buy, with verified prices.
1/10 crawler packs
Best value: Ovonic 2S 5200mAh 50C — $22.99
Hard case, Deans plug, 5200mAh of trail time for $22.99 direct from Ovonic. This is the pack we'd buy in multiples — at this price, two packs cost less than one premium brand single. Proven in the crawler community.
Step up: Gens Ace Bashing 2S 5200mAh — $39.99
Gens Ace's bashing line at $39.99 (Key City Hobby, EC3 connector). Better cycle life and consistency than budget packs — worth it if you run every weekend and want packs that last seasons, not months.
Smart ecosystem: Spektrum 2S 5000mAh G2 — $49.99
Spektrum's Smart G2 hard-case pack at $49.99 (Horizon Hobby, IC3). Self-storage-discharge, telemetry to Smart radios, zero guesswork. You're paying for the ecosystem — worth it if your truck already runs Spektrum electronics.
3S power: EcoPower Electron 3S 5000mAh — $49.99
For brushless 1/10 rigs that want 3S wheel speed: EcoPower's 5000mAh 3S at $49.99 (AMain, T-style plug). Big capacity for long 3S trail sessions.
Budget picks that don't suck
CNHL Black Series 3S 2200mAh — $23.98
CNHL's shorty 3S pack at $23.98 — the cheapest legitimate 3S we'd run. Compact shorty format fits tight chassis layouts. A comp-crawler favorite for weight placement.
ZOP Power 2S 2200mAh 35C — $26.99
ZOP's 2200mAh 2S at $26.99 (Banggood, T-Plug). Solid mid-size pack for 1/10 trail trucks where a full 5000mAh brick won't fit — or for lighter comp builds.
EcoPower Electron 3S 4300mAh LiHV — $39.99
LiHV chemistry (4.35V/cell) squeezes extra capacity into a standard 3S footprint — $39.99 at AMain. More runtime per gram for weight-conscious builds.
Micro crawler packs (1/24 & 1/18)
Spektrum 3S 650mAh G2 Trail Pro — $28.99
Tiny 3S pack (IC2 connector) at $28.99 from Horizon Hobby — built for micro trail trucks. Small enough for 1/24 chassis, punchy enough to matter.
Micro RTRs usually include a battery, so you may not need this on day one. But a second pack doubles your runtime, and at micro scale a spare is cheap. Match the connector your truck uses — most 1/24 and 1/18 RTRs run small JST or proprietary plugs, so check before ordering.
LiPo care in 60 seconds
Balance charge, every time. Crawlers sip power, so it's tempting to get lazy — don't. A balance charger is the single most important RC purchase after the truck.
Storage voltage matters. Leaving a LiPo fully charged for weeks degrades it. Storage-charge to ~3.8V/cell if you won't run for a week or more. (Spektrum Smart packs do this automatically — one reason they cost more.)
Never run them dead. Set your ESC's low-voltage cutoff and respect it. A LiPo discharged below 3.0V/cell is a paperweight — or worse.
Charge in a LiPo bag. Cheap insurance, non-negotiable. Charge on a non-flammable surface, never unattended.

Crawler LiPo FAQ
What is the best LiPo battery for an RC crawler?
For 1/10 crawlers, the Ovonic 2S 5200mAh 50C ($22.99) is the value king — big capacity, hard case, proven brand. The Gens Ace Bashing 2S 5200mAh ($39.99) is the step-up pick with a stronger reputation for cycle life. For micro crawlers, the Spektrum 3S 650mAh ($28.99) fits 1/24 and 1/18 trail trucks.
Should I run 2S or 3S in my crawler?
2S (7.4V) for most brushed and mild brushless setups — longer runtimes, less heat, easier on electronics. 3S (11.1V) for brushless systems that can use the wheel speed, especially comp-style driving. Never run 3S on electronics rated for 2S only — check your ESC's specs first.
What connector do I need for my crawler LiPo?
Match your ESC: T-Plug (Deans) is the most common in budget and mid-range crawlers, EC3/IC3 on Spektrum-equipped RTRs, XT60 on many brushless setups. Adapters exist, but a native connector is always more reliable. Check what your truck shipped with before ordering.
How long does a crawler LiPo last per charge?
Much longer than you'd expect — crawling is low-amp driving. A 5200mAh 2S pack typically runs 45–90 minutes in a 1/10 trail truck; a 2200mAh pack runs 30–45 minutes. Micro crawlers sip power even more slowly. Two packs is plenty for a full afternoon.
Are cheap LiPo batteries safe?
Stick to known RC brands (Ovonic, CNHL, ZOP Power, Gens Ace, Spektrum) and you're fine — the $20–$25 packs from these brands are proven. What matters more than brand is handling: balance-charge every time, never puncture or over-discharge, and store at storage voltage. A LiPo bag for charging is cheap insurance.
