Axial Capra upgrades.
The right mods, in the right order, at verified prices.
The Capra 1.9 UTB is built like a comp truck that escaped onto the trail: portal axles, a cage, a dig transmission, and, on the current truck, factory four-wheel steering. The best axial capra upgrades follow the order the truck asks for them — steering first, grip second, low front weight third, then shocks, links, brushless control, and the dig unlock. Every pick below comes from our live catalog with its exact name, price, retailer, and URL. This guide is for the 1/10 UTB10, not the 1/18 UTB18.
Stage 1: a steering servo that survives sticky tires
The Capra's steering works against portal leverage and tall 1.9 tires. Add grip or brass before replacing the servo and you simply shorten its life. Pick the value servo for a normal build, or the direct-power flagship for a heavy 4WS truck.
INJORA INJS235 35KG Waterproof Brushless Servo — $33.99
The value pick: brushless motor, waterproof case, full-metal gears, and 35 kg-cm at 8.4V. It is the sensible first servo for most UTB10 builds.
NSDRC RS800 V2 Ultra High Torque Brushless Servo — $124.99
The premium pick: 600 oz-in at 8.4V and 900 oz-in at 12.6V, hardened stainless gears, and a 25T spline. On a 4WS Capra, budget for two steering servos, not one.
Set steering endpoints after the swap. A stronger servo driven into the stops is not an upgrade; it is a faster failure.
Stage 2: tires and inserts that let the portals work
Grip is the Capra's second ceiling. The current truck's stock tires are respectable, but a soft competition compound and supportive inserts still transform steep rock. Earlier trucks gain even more. Buy tires by the pair math: Ruptures and Pro-Line inserts are sold in pairs, while the MEUS set covers all four corners.
JConcepts Ruptures 1.9" Green — 125mm/4.92" Tall (2) — $28.50
The grip benchmark: super-soft green compound in a 125mm height the Capra's clearance handles easily. Budget for two pairs to do the truck.
Pro-Line 1.9" Dual Stage Foam Inserts (2) — $20.99
A closed-cell inner for sidewall support and a soft outer for grip. Inserts stop the downhill tire folding under the truck and make the suspension work as designed.
MEUS Racing 1.9 Inch MS6 Super Bouncer Tires with Super Soft Silicone Inserts for 1/10 SCX10 Capra 1.9 UTB TRX4 Redcat Gen8 — $45.99
The one-box alternative: four super-soft tires with silicone inserts included, and a fitment list that names the Capra 1.9 UTB directly.
Stage 3: brass for stock axles — and the MEUS trap
Put brass low and forward, at the front portal boxes and knuckles. Do not load the rear equally; the Capra climbs best with a forward bias. The trap is axle branding: MEUS brass made for MEUS axles is not stock-axle brass. The three picks here are cataloged for the stock SCX10 III/Capra portal family.
INJORA Heavy Duty Brass Portal Steering Knuckle (SCX10 III / Capra 1.9 UTB) — $17.99
The budget stock-axle knuckle: brass weight and durability over the stock plastic piece, sold by Vortex Hobbies for SCX10 III/Capra fitment.
SSD RC SCX10 III/Capra Brass Knuckle (2) (52g Each) [SSD00421] — $49.99
The matched pair: 52g per knuckle, 104g at the front axle, and verified stock-portal fitment. This is the brass step most Capra builds should take.
Treal Brass Outer Portal Covers Weights 93g for Axial Capra UTB/SCX10 III Type B — $35.98
Another 93g out at the portal boxes, stacking with knuckle weight without hanging mass off the chassis. Add it after the knuckles, then re-check your front-to-rear bias.
MEUS Racing Steel 32P Overdrive Portal Gears for Capra 1.9 UTB / SCX10 III — $16.99
The climbing tweak: steel overdrive portal gears that let the front axle pull the truck up a face instead of the rear pushing it into the obstacle.
Every Capra-fit part we track lives on the Capra parts page.
Stage 4: shocks, links, brushless power, and dig
With steering, grip, and bias sorted, the remaining upgrades are control upgrades. Desert Lizards fix leaking stock shocks and can be built in droop; stainless links remove flex; the Fusion Pro-Elite adds FOC throttle resolution; and the dig becomes useful once its servo is set up correctly.
Yeah Racing 90mm Desert Lizard Shocks (2) Black — $30.99
Two-stage internal-spring shocks, sold as a pair. Build them in droop for a lower center of gravity, or sprung if you want more ride height and flex.
MEUS Racing Stainless Steel Chassis Links Set For 1/10 Axial Capra 1.9 UTB — $22.59
Stainless chassis links in the catalog card's 324mm or 318mm options. Measure your truck and choose the wheelbase that matches it; do not guess.
MEUS Racing Stainless Steel Steering Links for Capra 1.9 UTB Front Axles — $15.99
The steering-side companion to the chassis set: stainless links that keep toe and steering geometry where you set them under load.
Hobbywing QuicRun Fusion Pro-Elite for Crawler 2300KV (2-in-1 ESC + Motor) — $131.99
The fit-correct brushless system: a short-can FOC 2-in-1 with smooth startup, strong drag brake, and a 10A BEC. A program card is a separate purchase if you want to tune it.
Reef's RC 99Micro Servo (Standard) — 99 oz-in — $59.99
The dig servo: 99 oz-in at 7.4V in a waterproof micro footprint. Set its endpoints to the dig's short travel before driving, or torque will not save it.
Sample build and lowest-cost route
The core build — $165.95 total
INJORA INJS235 servo ($33.99) + MEUS MS6 tires with inserts ($45.99) + SSD brass knuckles ($49.99) + Treal portal covers ($35.98). That is the Capra's steering, grip, and forward weight fixed in one order.
Lowest-cost route — $97.97 total
INJORA INJS235 servo ($33.99) + MEUS MS6 tire set ($45.99) + INJORA brass knuckle from Vortex Hobbies ($17.99). You give up the SSD pair's matched 104g and the Treal covers, but every slot still gets a real fix.
The recommended path — $503.91 total
RS800 servo ($124.99) + two pairs of Ruptures ($57.00) + two pairs of Pro-Line inserts ($41.98) + SSD knuckles ($49.99) + Treal covers ($35.98) + two pairs of Desert Lizards ($61.98) + Fusion Pro-Elite ($131.99). Buy it in stage order; each stage is a stopping point.
Axial Capra upgrade FAQ
What is the first Axial Capra upgrade I should buy?
A steering servo. Sticky 1.9 tires and portal-axle leverage expose the stock servo before almost anything else. The INJORA INJS235 ($33.99) is the value pick with brushless power, waterproofing, and metal gears; the NSDRC RS800 V2 ($124.99) is the buy-once pick for a heavy or 4WS build. Do the servo before brass makes the steering work even harder.
Which Hobbywing Fusion fits the Capra 1.9 UTB?
The Hobbywing QuicRun Fusion Pro-Elite 2300KV ($131.99). Its ultra-short 48.5mm can is the important part: the standard Fusion Pro is longer and can foul the link mounts in the Capra's stock transmission layout. The Pro-Elite is a 2-in-1 FOC system with a 10A BEC, and its 3.175mm shaft matches the stock pinion bore, so the power swap does not automatically become a pinion hunt.
Does MEUS Capra brass fit the stock Axial axles?
Not automatically. Several MEUS brass pieces are made for MEUS Cheat Code or MEUS Capra axles, not the stock Axial F9 portals. Read the axle line on every listing. For stock axles, this guide uses the SSD brass knuckles ($49.99), Treal portal covers ($35.98), and the INJORA knuckle sold by Vortex Hobbies ($17.99), all cataloged for SCX10 III/Capra fitment.
Do UTB18 Capra parts fit the 1/10 Capra?
No. The UTB18 is a 1/18 truck that shares the Capra name, not its parts. Its links, knuckles, shafts, wheels, and brass are smaller. When a listing says only “Capra,” confirm that it also says 1/10, UTB10, or Capra 1.9 before ordering. Every pick in this guide is for the 1/10 UTB10 platform.
Why does my Capra keep killing dig servos?
Usually because the servo is driving into the ends of the dig shift. The transmission has only a short shift throw, so set endpoints with the linkage disconnected and stop the servo before it strains against the stops. Then use a real micro dig servo such as the Reef's RC 99Micro ($59.99), with the correct saver and spline setup, instead of asking a weak stock micro servo to force the shift.
