Launch watch
Axial SCX30 Jeep CJ-7: release date, colors & specs.
A palm-size licensed CJ-7 on the SCX30 platform — $99.99, landing October 28.
Axial keeps shrinking the crawler without shrinking the fun. The SCX30 Jeep CJ-7 takes one of the most recognizable 4x4 shapes ever made, scales it down to 1/30 — small enough to sit in your palm — and sells it as a true ready-to-run for under a hundred dollars. This page tracks the launch: the release date, all three colors, what is actually in the box, and where the best verified price lands on day one.
Release date & price
🚀 Releases Oct 28, 2026
The SCX30 Jeep CJ-7 is a preorder at Horizon Hobby for $99.99, shipping October 28, 2026. Horizon says preorders are guaranteed launch-day shipment, with the truck available everywhere else the same day. A sub-$100 licensed Jeep from a major brand is exactly the kind of launch that sells through its first batch, so the preorder window matters if you want one from the first run.
The three colors
All three versions are the same truck at the same $99.99 — the choice is purely which CJ-7 personality you want on the shelf.
Specs & what's in the box
Platform
1/30 scale SCX30 chassis, 4x4 drive, brushed motor, 2S LiPo compatible. The SCX30 is Axial's smallest crawler platform — built for desks, bookshelf courses, and indoor rock piles.
Body & detail
Officially licensed Jeep CJ-7 ABS hard body with a detailed interior, licensed wheels and tires, and functional LED lighting. This is a hard body, not a thin lexan shell — it looks like a scale model because it is one.
In the box
The truck, a Spektrum SLT2 2.4GHz transmitter, a Spektrum 2S LiPo battery, a 0.5A USB charger, four AA transmitter batteries, and the manual.
Needed to complete
Nothing — and that is rare enough to say twice. Battery, charger, and even the transmitter AAs are included, so the box-to-rocks time is however long the first charge takes.
Why a palm-size CJ-7 is a bigger deal than it looks
Micro crawlers are where a lot of the hobby's energy is right now, because the barrier to entry is a kitchen table instead of a trailhead. A 1/30 truck crawls over books, couch cushions, and a handful of landscaping rocks — and at $99.99 with nothing else to buy, the CJ-7 undercuts most 'cheap' starter trucks once you add up their battery and charger. It is also a genuinely good gift shape: a licensed Jeep people recognize, in a box that needs no second purchase to work.
The other reason to pay attention is the aftermarket. The SCX30 platform already has tires, wheels, brass, shocks, and brushless power systems behind it — much of it already tracked in our catalog — so this $99.99 Jeep is the start of a build, not a dead end.
How we're tracking the deal
RC Crawlers Seek only posts deals after verifying the total landed price — item plus shipping — against every other seller we track. A preorder at one store is not a verified deal yet, so for now this page is the watch post: the preorder link above goes to Horizon, and our New & Upcoming page carries the CJ-7 with its release date alongside every other launch we're watching.
On release day, October 28, we re-check stock and landed prices across sellers, and the SCX30 Jeep CJ-7 joins the catalog as a fully verified deal at the best price we can confirm. If somebody beats $99.99 landed, that is the price you will see here.
SCX30 CJ-7 FAQ
When does the Axial SCX30 Jeep CJ-7 release?
October 28, 2026. Horizon Hobby is taking preorders now at $99.99, and preorders are slated to ship on launch day, with general availability everywhere the same day.
How much does the SCX30 Jeep CJ-7 cost?
$99.99 in all three colors, including the Yellow Laredo Limited Edition. That is the preorder price at Horizon Hobby before shipping; on release day we verify the best total landed price across sellers and post it in our catalog.
What colors does the SCX30 CJ-7 come in?
Three: Red (GenRight, AXI-3273T1), Green (Renegade, AXI-3273T2), and Yellow (Laredo Limited Edition, AXI-3273T3). The Yellow Laredo is exclusive to HorizonHobby.com while supplies last.
What comes in the box?
Everything. The truck arrives ready to run with a Spektrum SLT2 2.4GHz transmitter, a Spektrum 2S LiPo battery, a 0.5A USB charger, and the AA batteries for the transmitter. Horizon lists 'needed to complete' as absolutely nothing.
Is the SCX30 CJ-7 a real crawler or a toy?
A real hobby-grade crawler, just a very small one. It rides on Axial's SCX30 platform at 1/30 scale with 4x4 drive, a brushed motor, and a licensed ABS hard body — and the SCX30 aftermarket is already established, so it can grow with you like its bigger SCX24 and SCX10 cousins.
Where will the best price be on release day?
That is exactly what we check. On October 28 we compare the total landed price — item plus shipping — at every seller we track, and the CJ-7 joins our catalog as a verified deal at the best price we can confirm.
